      Welcome to Northumberland Hospital Radio

Northumberland Hospital Radio is a regionally-based hospital broadcasting service covering the county of Northumberland (North East England). Our Radio Station - NHR - currently provides a 24-hour service to Blyth Community Hospital, Hexham General Hospital, Morpeth Cottage Hospital and Wansbeck General Hospital - Hospitals within the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK.

The service is run entirely by voluntary staff (there are no paid employees of the Charity) who either work elsewhere or are retired. All our volunteers bring a mix of skills and experience for the benefit of the organisation. NHR is a UK registered charity.

In addition to hospital broadcasting, NHR also provides excellent audio production facilities and an outside events public address service. Over the last thirty years, we have attended every major town fair, numerous school fairs and hospital fetes. We charge a fee for attending these events, which helps support our running costs. For further information, please contact NHR at the address on the "Contact Us" page.

NHR broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using a computer-based playout system to provide patients and staff with a quality blend of easy listening music, mixed with information sequences (such as our "What's On" service).

If you would like NHR to mention your event in our "What's On" service, please visit the "What's On" page.

NHR actively works in partnership with a number of organisations in Northumberland.

Hear us at Hexham and Wansbeck General Hospitals on Hospedia radio channel 1, at Blyth Community Hospital on bedside radio channel 1 and at Morpeth Cottage Hospital via the bedside headsets and speakers in day rooms.

Listening to NHR via Hospedia (formerly Patientline) is completely free of charge. You do not need to purchase a viewing card.

If you are a patient either at Hexham or Wansbeck, you will normally be registered on the Hospedia system for meal ordering, on admission to the ward. You can then listen to NHR - as well as a selection of other radio channels - all day free of charge.

At Blyth Community Hospital a brand new nurse call system has been installed which offers approximately 10 radio channels - including NHR - in digital stereo quality. You may need to ask a member of staff for the loan of a walkman-style headset, which should always be left for the use and benefit of the next patient.

NHR - 100% voluntary - no salaries - serving the NHS for 38 years
